I would contend Yes! Social networking websites are so successful because they increase efficiency. We have a desire to be informed & stay in touch. Online communities make it easy to connect. Major Colleges, Universities & even some Prep schools are seeking social network design & development services. At Pearse Street we currently only except jobs that we believe in. Our clients tend to have to convince us to work on projects. I’m particularly interested in accepting more projects in the education niche because the business model makes so much sense. It seems a lot of the top tier schools are creating social networking websites. I think we’ll be seeing a lot more .edu social networks popping up. With what universities spend on advertising it’s a no brainer to develop social media to help advertise any university. Without a doubt there is an additional value in the social features that members of schools can enjoy.
It does make sense for universities to develop social networking websites. I can see how it would be great for admissions & recruiting.
I think university social networking websites are going to become the standard. Most of the bigger universities are talking with web developers who specialize in social networking website development. The right company can probably integrate the schools university software into the social software.
